Lachute, September 19, 2023 – Luc Guilbault (Drummondville) was very proud to win the Pierre Archambault trophy on Tuesday at the 40+ Players’ Championship presented in collaboration with belairdirect at the Lachute Golf Club. Suzanne Ricard (Royal Montreal) triumphed in the women's category, in her first appearance at the tournament.

 

The competition was back on the Golf Québec calendar after being cancelled last year due to weather conditions. This time, while the rain was still present, it didn't prevent the event from taking place.

 

Winner of the last two editions of the Men’s Senior Provincial Championship, Luc Guilbault took the provisional lead on Monday by being the only golfer to play under par on the Watson Course, at 70 (-2).

 

The Drummondville representative then retained first place thanks to a final round of 74 (+2).

 

"It's always a tough field here! Engraving my name on a trophy where Graham Cooke's name appears several times is a great achievement for me. I'm very happy," said Guilbault.

 

His overall score of 144 gave him a 2-stroke lead on Danny Turbide (Royal Québec), Philippe Ricard (Le Blainvillier), and Éric Paquin (KI-8-Eb) all tied at 146.

 

"It went well today. I minimized the mistakes and my fellow competitors played well! They kept it interesting all day," added Luc Guilbault. It was great fun. It puts an end to a season I'm very satisfied with. There are a few disappointments, we'd like to win everything, but to finish this way is great."

 

 

Suzanne Ricard was also crowned, rounding off her brilliant season in style.

 

 

 

After carding a 76 (+4) the day before, Ricard maintained her momentum on Tuesday. She carded three birdies and finished the second round at 77 (+5) to take her cumulative score to 153 (+9).

 

"The weather held out and I really liked the Watson course. It's a club with a lot of history! When you think about it, you can appreciate each hole and its degree of difficulty. I really enjoyed my experience," she says.

 

Hélène Chartrand (Summerlea) followed in second place with a total of 158 (+14), having posted rounds of 77 (+5) and 81 (+9). Karine Desroches (Triangle d'Or) moved up four spots on Tuesday to finish third (170).

 

It's hard to think of a better way to end the current season for Suzanne Ricard, who is delighted with her most recent performances. One last event awaits her: the U.S. Senior Women's Amateur Championship in Arizona.

 

"I took part in today's tournament in that spirit, to prepare myself. It's perfect to win at this time," shared the player who won the Senior Women's Championship earlier this year, as well as being part of the Golf Québec's mid-amateur and senior teams that finished first and third, respectively, in inter-provincial competitions.

 

A total of 79 men and 16 women took part in the 40+ Players' Championship presented in collaboration with belairdirect.

 

 

In 2023, Golf Québec is proud to count on the collaboration of belairdirect for the presentation of the Men's and Women's Provincial Tours. In addition, the Golf Québec volunteers, referees, and employees will be dressed by adidas throughout the golf season.
