Montréal, May 15, 2024 – Golf Québec is proud to announce that Diane Dunlop-Hébert and André Maltais will become the 41st and 42nd inductees into the Québec Golf Hall of Fame at ceremonies to be confirmed in future communications.

Diane Dunlop-Hébert (1959 - …)

Diane Dunlop-Hébert is one of Québec’s most distinguished golf volunteers. She has served as President of Golf Canada, President of Golf Québec, President of Mount Bruno Country Club, and is the first Canadian woman elected as a member of the Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St. Andrews, Scotland.

At Mount Bruno, Diane was Ladies’ Captain and the first female President in 2019 and 2020. She has been involved as a volunteer for over 25 years. She was Treasurer of the Canadian Ladies Golf Association (CLGA) - Québec Branch and was part of the committee for the amalgamation between the CLGA and the Québec Golf Association in 2005.

As a Director of Golf Québec, she held various portfolios, from Treasurer to Vice-President, before becoming the first female President in 2007 and 2008. She received the Pierre-Nadon prize twice, in 2019, for her individual contribution, and in 2020, for her involvement with the Standing Committee of the Québec golf industry.

Her volunteer work led her to Golf Canada, where she chaired four committees: Nominations, Audit & Risk, Membership, and Compensation. In 2012, she became the first woman from the province of Québec to serve as President of Golf Canada's Board of Directors. Diane is still active at the national level as a Canadian Golf Hall of Fame Selection Committee member.

Diane is also involved in the Golf Canada Foundation, which is building the Jocelyne Bourassa Legacy Fund to support women golf coaches and education bursaries for women professional golfers. In 2021, the Foundation recognized Diane as a Legacy Award recipient.

In 2015, Diane Dunlop-Hébert was elected as a full member of Royal & Ancient Golf Club of St. Andrews (R&A), becoming the first Canadian woman to join the Club, along with six other international women members, following the historic decision to admit women to Club membership. Diane has continued her volunteer work at the global level, joining the R&A Group of Companies Finance Committee in 2022 and the R&A Group of Companies General Committee in 2023.

Diane's philanthropic endeavours extend far beyond the golfing scene. She has been an ardent supporter of numerous charitable organizations, including Concordia University, the Montréal Children's Library, Leucan, the Lower Canada College Parents' Campaign, the St. Mary's Hospital Foundation, the Red Cross Ball, the Montréal Heart Institute Foundation, the Old Brewery Mission, and many more. Her commitment to making a difference in the community is truly commendable.

Diane has lived in Montréal since an early age. She began her career with Ernst & Young in Montréal and has held the position of VP Infrastructure at Groupe Park Avenue, a family-owned company, since 1995. A retired member of the Ordre des comptables professionnels agréés (CPA) du Québec and the Institute of Corporate Directors, she holds a Bachelor of Commerce with distinction from Concordia University and a Graduate Certificate in Professional Accounting from McGill University.

André Maltais (1942 - …)

Born in Sherbrooke, André Maltais discovered golf at the age of 12. He started out as a caddy at the East Angus Golf Club. Two years later, he worked as a course maintenance employee under superintendent Gérard "Putter" Bernier. Bernier became his mentor, as he had been for many of the club's juniors. In 1959, André lost in the final of the Provincial Junior Boys’ Championship. As an amateur, he won more than 25 local and regional tournaments. At the age of 19, he succeeded "Putter" as course superintendent, a position he held for three years.
 
André began his professional career in 1965 as a teacher at the Waterville Golf Club (which he owned from 1987 to 2000). In 1966, Club Laval-sur-le-Lac pro Jules Huot hired him as his assistant. His services were rewarded, as he succeeded his legendary boss in 1971. Michel Millaire, René Noël, Serge Thivierge, Raymond Richer, and Guy Faucher are just some of his elite assistants. His first wife, Verna, and their sons, Eric and the late Patrick, eventually joined him as members of the PGA of Canada. His grandson, Karl, has recently joined the ranks of the association.
 
As a professional, he held a dozen individual titles, including the Québec Assistants' Championship (1967). He took part in the Canadian Open twice, in 1969 and 1971. André captained our representatives in the annual Québec-Ontario matches (1988-1992). In five matches, he recorded four victories. He finished 5th overall on the 1970 O'Keefe Tour and second on the 2003 and 2008 Senior Tours.
 
André was also committed to his association. From 1968 to 1970, he was a member of the Assistant Committee. He served on the Executive Board of the PGA of Québec (1973-1982) and on the National Board (1981-1982). At provincial level, he held the positions of Captain (1979) and President (1981-82).
 
He was a member of the Board of Directors of Boutiques Progolf (1980-84) and its President for four years (1991-1994). This company was founded by René Noël and Gilles Gareau with the aim of increasing the purchasing power of professionals who owned their own boutiques.
 
In 2021 and 2022, he chaired the Québec PGA's Meritas Sub-Committee, which presented Québec candidates for induction into the PGA Hall of Fame of Canada. He was pleased to see three Quebecers achieve this honour: Stanley Horne, Adrien Bigras, and Walter "Jack" Bissegger.
 
André has written three books on golf, including a biography of his former boss, entitled "JULES HUOT: Coup de départ du golf québécois". Over the course of his long career, he presented numerous written, radio, and television columns. As a rallying force, André co-organized several competitions for his senior colleagues. These included the Québec-Ottawa, Québec-Ottawa-Ontario, and Nord-Sud matches. He has also organized and chaired a few for-profit tournaments to raise funds for various causes.
 
André will never forget his Honorary Presidency of the 2001 Spring Open. On that occasion, he was granted the privilege of playing in the competition round with his two sons. By his own admission, he experienced emotions "out of the ordinary".
 
His engaging personality and unconditional love of golf have earned him numerous awards, including the Pierre-Nadon Prize (2021) awarded by Golf Québec and a group of golf columnists.
 
André Maltais also joins the Québec Golf Hall of Fame in the builder category.

About the Québec Golf Hall of Fame

The Québec Golf Association’s Hall of Fame was founded by three past presidents of the QGA, Larry Boyle, Maurice Dagenais and Roger Legault. Their desire was to pay homage to the many great Québec players and builders who have distinguished themselves provincially, nationally, or internationally. A general consultation process began as various groups were asked to identify different personalities who might be honoured. Next, a selection committee was established with a mandate to evaluate the proposed candidates and determine those that would be elected for the inaugural ceremony in 1996.

The 2024 Hall of Fame Committee is comprised of three (3) Past Presidents of Golf Québec, Marcel Paul Raymond (Chairman), Jacques Nols (inducted in 2012), and Charlie Beaulieu, one (1) inductee, Debbie Savoy Morel (inducted in 2017), one (1) representative of the PGA of Canada - Québec Zone, Guy Faucher, as well as one (1) member appointed by the committee, Michel St-Laurent.
